XBRL Consulting
XBRL is an emerging XML-based standard technology focused on improving financial reporting and increasing transparency across financial systems. XBRL stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). Also known as "Interactive Data", XBRL is a standards-based method with which users can prepare, publish, exchange and analyze financial information.
XBRL is being developed by an international non-profit consortium of approximately 450 major companies, organizations and government agencies. It is an open standard, free of license fees. It is already being applied in a number of countries with implementations of XBRL growing rapidly around the world. For a detailed history of the development of XBRL, visit www.xbrl.org.
The SEC has introduced XBRL as a voluntary filing program (VFP) initiative. The SEC VFP allows companies to submit XBRL versions of their financial information as part of their existing filing process to the SEC. The XBRL documents can be filed as supplement part of the Form 8-K, 6-K, or filed as part of a regular Form 10-Q/10-K filing along with the official HTML documents. Notes to the financial statement and other text-based information (audit opinions, SEC Certification, management report) are currently OPTIONAL. The SEC has indicated that an eventual mandate is likely to happen and has created incentives to encourage companies to adopt XBRL and file on EDGAR.
EDGARfilings is committed to staying on the leading edge of this emerging technology and is an active member of the international XBRL consortium. We are dedicated to the development and propagation of XBRL as a standard computer language for reporting, managing and communicating published financial statements. We have been an active participant in discussions with the SEC on preparing the EDGAR filing system for the XBRL voluntary filing program.
